Welcome
This space is for anyone thinking about how best to support children growing up in today’s world.
You might be a parent working out what feels right for your child, a young person hearing lots of different views, or someone who supports children and families through your work.
Solihull IRL brings together people across the area who share a simple aim, to protect childhood and give children the time and space they need to grow well.
We also recognise that every family is different. This isn’t about telling people what to do, it’s about supporting informed choices, building shared understanding, and working together to help young people thrive.

This is a whole community approach. Schools, parents, the NHS, local voluntary and community groups, and Solihull Council services are all coming together alongside children, young people and families to try and navigate this together.
We are all learning. There isn’t one perfect answer. What felt important was creating a space where we can come together, to ask questions, share experiences, find support and learn from each other.
As conversations around smartphones continue to grow, more families, schools and communities are beginning to pause and reflect. What does childhood look like now? And what do children need from us to thrive?
Solihull IRL exists to bring people together, to share understanding, build confidence, and make it easier to take small, realistic steps that support children to grow up in a healthy, steady way.
